Timothy and Kathryn Farrar

20080730 : My how time flies!

We can't believe it's been so long since we've had a chance to post here! Time certainly does fly, and now we find ourselves half way through the summer, and facing our last couple of art shows already. Needless to say, we have been very busy juggling work, art, and a move, as well as some technical issues with our printer (more on that later).

We would like to take this chance to thank all our art patrons who have come out to spend some time with us, or who have bought our work. We appreciate you folks more than you know!

And we would be remiss not to send a heartfelt THANK YOU to Amy Amdur and all her staff. They run the most professional and buttoned-down art shows we've ever been in or to. They really set the bar high in terms of advertising and taking care of their artists and patrons. They foster a wonderful sense of community and family that we are proud to be a part of.

Anyway, since Kathryn has recently gotten her hands on a small point & shoot camera, she has been doing a little bit of documentary work at the shows. We thought you all might enjoy seeing a glimpse into our art show weekends.

Our first show took place under rather stormy skies. There is nothing worse during an art show than inclement weather.

Here is Tim relaxing at the rear of the tent.

And here is Kathryn.

During our first show of the season, Kathryn was freezing, so our fellow photographer friends, Jim and Karen McCollum, were kind enough to loan her a coat.

There is nothing better during an art show than clear skies!

We won a merit award at the North Shore show. It's hanging from the front panel.

And finally, here's a simple interior tent shot, with an art enthusiast examining our business cards out front.

20080220 : Lunar Eclipse

This was a fun experiment on a very cold night in February.

20071120 : Under A Watchful Eye

In the darkness of pre-dawn, this scene initially appeared quite static. But as the light grew we were amazed as subtle wind patterns slowly danced over the water, while the crescent moon sank swiftly toward the horizon. This presented an exposure challenge: we wanted a shutter speed long enough to capture the water patterns, yet fast enough to freeze the motion of the moon. Mission accomplished!

20071119 : South Tufa at Dawn

This is the type of light that photographers live for. Soft, indirect, glowing, shadowless. Its luminous nature envelopes everything and creates an atmosphere so tangible one can almost feel it.

On a technical note, this image is one of our super high resolution panoramic images. In the quest for big print size, Timothy embraced multi-shot panoramas last year during our trip to southern Utah, but Kathryn doggedly resisted this new and time-consuming technique. Although still shooting primarily single full-frame shots, she finally she gave in, and this is her first high res pano. It can be printed with excellent sharpness and detail in sizes up to 24" tall by 76" wide, or even larger.

20071112 : Black Point Sunrise

We didn't think we'd see anything spectacular this morning, as the sky was completely clear when we awoke around 4am. However, as the sky began to lighten, wispy clouds quickly gathered to catch the sun's first rays.

20071111 : Earth Shine

Windy gusts blow down from the mountains, leaving mysterious dark ripples across the surface of the lake. As the sky brightens, the moon sinks swiftly to the horizon, soon to disappear in the glow of the morning star rising beneath it. In this case, it is clear that the moon is actually being lit by two light sources: the glowing white limn by the sun, and the dark lunar body by the sun's light reflected off the earth.
