What do want to be?

What to do with your life? The eternal question at least for high schoolers as the end of year comes closer. What’s it like for college students? Sam Bear shows us what it’s like for him at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco California. He is up by nine o’clock each day and lives in a former hotel turned dormitory owned by the university. Then he’s off to class where he studies in the School of Motion Pictures and Television. His student ID allows him access to the school shuttle service which takes him to one of his two classes. The first class of the day is Production Design which gives him background in behind the scenes action of film work. Then it’s Directing Actors Class where he gets to work with other students. After school activities for Sam Bear include time at one of the Campus Cafes where he can connect with friends, classmates or eat.

The Academy of Art University has been providing aspiring students with varying degrees of opportunity since 1929 when Richard S. Stephens founded the school which is still run by the same family with his granddaughter Dr. Elisa Stephens serving as current president. The school grants associate, bachelors and master’s degrees as well as teaching credential, certificate programs and continuing art education on campus or on line. The university keeps itself current by engaging staff who work in their field of teaching which gives students like Sam Bear real world experience.

With a student enrollment of some 14,000 the Academy of Art University is the largest of its kind in the country. Todd Levine: Super Attorney of the Year

An attorney usually don’t get much attention for their efforts unless they’re representing a major client; and even in those cases, the client(s) receives much of the attention. Susan McGalla’s Business Career

In the business world, there are many incredibly bright and talented women. Unfortunately, due to gender inequality, they often do not get the credit they so richly deserve. Susan McGalla is a woman who has distinguished herself in a world that is dominated by men. Her business acumen has set her apart from many of her contemporaries. It has allowed her to move quickly up the corporate ladder. Her accomplishments have been quite impressive, making her very respected by people working at rival companies. She has often said that there is no greater compliment in the business world than to be respected by your competition.

McGalla is most famous for her time as the American Eagle Outfitters president. While she served in this capacity, she took this company to unprecedented heights. She has a real feel for the clothing business that allowed her to steer the company in the right direction during a critical time in its history. A native of the Ohio city of East Liverpool, she had a regular middle class upbringing. McGalla admits that she had no desire to be a powerful businesswoman when she was young. She wasn’t sure what she wanted to do for a career. However, she was reasonably certain it would not involve having constant boardroom meetings and making decisions about the future of huge companies.

McGalla was educated at a private college called the University of Mount Union. She enjoyed her time there very much. In many interviews over the years, McGalla often remarked about how her time at Mount Union was happy and memorable. She has managed to keep in touch with many of her former professors and classmates. She has said that the bond they share will last a lifetime. She is a member of the Board of Advisers of the school where she earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing and business.

McGalla began her professional career working for a large American department store chain called Horne’s. She did not waste any time showing her superiors that she had a knack for getting large assignments done quickly and efficiently. Because she was often the first to arrive and the last to leave at her office, this resulted in many frequent promotions. She continued to work for Horne’s until 1994. This was the year that Dillard’s bought the chain. She did not want to work under the new Dillard’s management, so she decided to continue her career elsewhere.

The same year she left Horne’s, McGalla decided to take a position at American Eagle Outfitters. This turned out to be a wise decision on her part. After starting as a merchandise buyer in the women’s clothing department, she later became a manager. After a series of promotions that carried her through many of the different departments of the company, McGalla was named American Eagle Outfitters’ president and chief merchandising officer. After 15 years at the company, McGalla worked extensively in the retail and investment industries as a private consultant. She found this to be a welcome change from the corporate world.

After Life of An NBA Owner – Bruce Levenson

The sale of the NBA Basketball Team, Atlanta Hawks, made headlines and the team take on a new look, new branding, and a new coach and trainers. The season has ended, and the team had a chance to play the last few games under new management. Preparations for the next NBA Season is looming in the forefront of the Hawks. Right now the Hawks are honing their skills, and new management is practicing right along with the team hoping Hawks will be the NBA winners of 2016.

The previous owner, Bruce Levenson sold the Hawks to Anthony Ressler and group. Ressler was the group lead in this purchase. A few months have passed since the sale changed hands in the neighborhood of $840 million, including the operating control of Philips Arena. Life for Levenson will continue to be extremely busy as he has always been involved in UCG, United Communications Group, and the Levenson’s philanthropic endeavors in his community and life with his family. Bruce still loves the hoop and the sport, and he will continue to follow the players and the game, but not with the added ownership responsibilities.

UCG, United Communications Group is an award-winning journalistic reporting company started by Bruce and his business partner Ed Peskowitz right out of college. The business started in a small storage room over Bruce’s father’s liquor store. Both Bruce and Ed started the business with just their college degrees in hand and today their business spans the world still reporting accurately, providing advice to businesses that build strong companies and helps them achieve goals. UCG is a privately owned business and one of the largest of its kind in the world having over two million clients. Their motto hasn’t changed over the years and that is to “Create Content that is targeted, trusted, and transformative”. Bruce has remained very involved in the every day-to-day function of UCG, and will possibly have more involvement since the sale of the Hawks.

Bruce and his wife, Karen will continue working with the community, mostly in the educational arena. They started a program at Maryland University to build and expand the philanthropy agenda at the university. They developed a program introducing students to philanthropic work beginning during orientation week. The program designed to educate students in the field of nonprofits. More students are skilled in the field of nonprofit organizations to successfully attain and meet the goals of the organizations. The program has expanded internationally and has a strong following in many other countries such as China, India, and Japan.

Bruce and Karen Levenson are very close to their community in Maryland, and just a couple of miles into the District of Columbia, where Bruce sits on several boards and works with disadvantaged kids to build their dreams and become better educated. A couple of other organizations the Levenson’s are involved with “I Have a Dream”, “Bringing the Lessons Home Program”, according to and connecting students today with the Holocaust History. Bruce believes that connecting the young student with the history will achieve more awareness of community needs and build stronger community ties.

The Growth And Development Of Eucatex

Eucatex is a Brazilian Company that was formed in November 23, 1951. The Eucatex enterprise was the first company in Brazil to be concerned with environmental issues. The entity used eucalyptus as a raw material for its products. The head quarters of the Eucatex Company are located in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The company started off with the production of soft board. After a while, it introduced ceiling tiles and panels. All these products were made from eucalyptus.

The company was able to register success of its operations and put up its first office branches in a number of cities around Brazil and in Buenos Aires, Argentina. With the increased production capacity to 100 tones daily, they started exporting panels and tiles to Europe. In the 60s, Eucatex introduced hard board production and opened up a mill in Salto. This milling facility was soon followed by the construction of a metal industrial unit in Barueri. This facility enabled the firm to expand its operations to Germany, United States, Mexico, Holland and the United Kingdom.

To ensure that the company had abundant supply of raw materials, Eucatex acquired land and started reforestation. They also started producing paints and split production to wood, forestry, mineral and metallic. During this period, they opened another factory in Salto. In 1996, the management of the company made a decision to start manufacturing MDP panels and received an ISO 9001 certification.

Eucatex introduced a new MDF line in 2010.The line produces panels that utilizes a high technology and mechanical resistance. The company uses the panels in the production of partition, door panels and other furniture products. The company has a payroll of over 2000 employees. The entity has constructed four modern factories. The company owes its current success to Flavio Maluf who has introduced technology to boost the production and growth of the company.

Flavio is a business man who was born and raised in Brazil. He is the son of Paulo Flavio, a renowned political figure in Brazil. Upon completing his high school education, he joined Armando Alvares Penteado Foundation in Sao Paulo where he did his undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering. Flavio was intrigued by the workings of the business world and joined the New York University where he studied business administration. It is at this institution where he met Jacqueline de Lourdes Torres Coutinho who later became his wife.

Mr. Maluf and his wife moved to Brazil in 1987 and he recruited at Eucatex. He worked at the trade sector before moving to the industrial region and later on, joined the Eucatex Group Executives. He brought in new ideas that saw him take over as the company’s president in 1997, a position he holds up- to date. Flavio and his wife have a daughter and two sons.
