Rebel Wilson: She Was Born For This
One thing is for certain: Rebel Wilson was born for this. There is no doubting that or questioning that. It might have taken her a while to get to this point, but it was worth the journey for her, all of the ups and downs. It prepared her for this moment where she is one of the biggest draws and biggest actresses in Hollywood.
As she has pointed out in previous interviews, when most actors or actresses come from Australia to the United States, it is usually for dramatic roles. She decided to buck that trend and come to the United States and take on comedic roles. Make no mistake about it, she can do dramatic roles, but she really seems to excel in comedies.
It is why she landed her first leading role in the film Isn’t It Romantic. Producers and directors know there is no one out quite like Rebel Wilson out there working today.
She is in a league all of her own. She is proud of that fact. As a matter of fact, she found an agent within two days of coming to the United States. They even said they had no one like her on their books. Her first major role in the United States was in 2011’s Bridesmaids. She showed she had a knack for stealing scenes and getting people to notice her and pay attention to what she was doing. It only went to the next level with her role as Fat Amy in the Pitch Perfect franchise. She takes what she does seriously while also having fun at the same time. That is the great thing about her as an actress. She is really going to go for broke.
She is not over the top, as she knows just the right notes to hit. If someone asked her parents, they remember the shy girl growing up; the one that was so shy, she didn’t even want to try out acting. It just goes to show people out there, even if they are born for it, sometimes it needs to be plucked out of them with some support. She had a great foundation at home that supported her and still does to this day. She also had help from her high school drama teacher, Mrs. Bowmaker, as Rebel Wilson admits she was socially awkward. That awkwardness has really worked to her advantage, however, as she doesn’t really care what people think about her or how they perceive her.
That is up to them to decide. She is going to keep doing her thing. What she is doing is clearly working and she is going to keep doing it and keep riding the wave of success she is currently on as an actress.
